A note from Kamal
Hi there! And welcome! Thanks for taking interest. I’ll do my best to make it worth your time.
My path into the world of video production was far from traditional. While studying something completely unrelated (psychology), I started teaching myself how to use a camera and edit videos in my spare time. The dark winters and several (and I mean dozens) snow days of St. John’s, NFLD led to a lot of time spent stuck inside.
I started first like many others; with a vlog. No big whoop, I know. Slowly but surely over time though, my ’little videos’ became more and more ambitious.
“I want to make a music video!”
“I want to make a short film!”
“I want to make an epic movie trailer about laundry!”
I eventually made them all. Yes, even the laundry trailer. It’s still one of my favourite things I’ve ever made. Certainly not the best (I was 18, give me a break) but my favourite for sure. Trust me, it’s hilarious.
With each new project, I’d try and involve more and more people. Larger and larger crews, starting with friends I paid in pizza and beer, eventually leading to true industry professionals.
Through all these projects, I learned valuable lessons about conflict resolution, problem solving, and effective communication. Not to mention all the practical skills I picked up along the way through pre-production, production and post-production.
All those lessons I’d learned, both through my successes and my failures, helped me to build a structural foundation for how I have presented and composed myself throughout my professional career, as well as how I work within my teams as both a member, and a leader.
Much of my strength lies within my own awareness of my flaws. Nobody is without weakness, but I believe it’s my ability to acknowledge, work around and learn from mine or my teams’ weaknesses - and thrive despite them - that has lead, and will continue to lead to a successful career. I’m only just getting started; the best is yet to come.
Be well, and take care of each other.
